01Overview

What is SOC 2?

SOC 2 is an independent report on the controls a service organisation uses to protect customer data, produced by a licensed CPA firm against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria. A Type I report describes whether controls are suitably designed at a point in time, and a Type II report also tests whether they operated effectively over a period, typically three to twelve months.

Who asks for it?

Enterprise and international customers of SaaS, cloud, fintech and outsourcing providers, often during procurement.

What does it cover?

Security is always included. Availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy are optional criteria.

Who issues the report?

An independent CPA firm. GoAgile prepares you and supports the audit, but cannot issue the report.

Type I or Type II?

Many start with Type I to unblock deals, then move to Type II, which carries more weight.

Fintech and payments providerSOC 2 readiness

SOC 2 Type II readiness for a payments provider

Enterprise customers were asking for a SOC 2 report the company did not yet have.

  • Scoped the trust services criteria with the auditor
  • Closed control gaps and automated evidence collection
  • Supported the audit through the observation period

Result: The audit completed with the report customers had asked for.

Insurance companyISO 27001 certification

ISO 27001 certification for an insurer

The insurer needed certified information security management to win larger corporate accounts.

  • Risk assessment and Statement of Applicability
  • Policies, training and internal audit

Tier-1 Saudi bankRed team exercise

A threat-led red team exercise for a bank

The bank needed evidence that its people, processes and detection would hold up against a realistic attacker, in line with SAMA expectations.

  • Agreed rules of engagement and a threat scenario with the CISO
  • Ran a controlled exercise against production systems
  • Ran a purple team workshop so defenders could see every step

Result: Detection gaps were fixed, playbooks were updated and the board received a plain-language report.

10Questions answered

SOC 2 FAQs

What is the difference between SOC 2 Type I and Type II?

Type I evaluates whether controls are suitably designed at a single point in time. Type II also tests whether they operated effectively over a period, which gives customers more assurance.

How long does SOC 2 take?

A Type I can take two to four months to prepare. A Type II adds an observation period, so the full journey is often six to twelve months.

Do you issue the SOC 2 report?

No. A licensed CPA firm issues the report. We prepare you and support the audit.

Which trust services criteria should we include?

Security is required. Add availability, confidentiality, processing integrity or privacy if customers care about them or your service commits to them.

Is SOC 2 recognised in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, by international and many enterprise customers. It is an attestation report, not a Saudi regulatory requirement, and is often combined with ISO 27001 and NCA alignment.

How much does SOC 2 cost?

It depends on scope, size and readiness: our programme effort, tooling and the CPA firm's fees. We give a fixed-scope estimate.

Can we automate evidence collection?

Largely yes, for cloud, identity, code and ticketing systems, with some manual evidence for physical and people controls.
