01Overview

What is OT security?

Operational technology (OT) security protects the systems that run physical processes, such as industrial control systems, SCADA, PLCs and sensors in energy, water, manufacturing and transport. Unlike IT security, its first priorities are safety and availability, and many assets cannot be patched, scanned or rebooted on a normal schedule.

Plants that once ran on isolated networks are now connected for efficiency, remote support and analytics. That connectivity brings IT-style threats into environments built for reliability, not security.

Good OT security starts with seeing what is there, separates networks into zones, controls how vendors and IT reach the plant, and monitors for abnormal behaviour, all designed with the people who run the process.

    Weeks 5 to 8

Risk and gap assessment against IEC 62443 and the OTCC.

  4. Roadmap

    Week 9

Prioritised, costed plan that respects maintenance cycles.

  5. Implement

    Months 3 to 9

Segmentation, access control, monitoring and hardening, in planned windows.

  6. Monitor

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI)Cyber security

Enterprise-grade protection for a mission-critical engagement

SAMI engaged GoAgile to strengthen its cyber security posture with protection aligned to the rigorous security and compliance standards of its sector.

  • Strengthened the organization's cyber security posture
  • Delivered enterprise-grade protection aligned to sector security and compliance standards
National energy operatorOT security assessment

OT assessment and segmentation for an energy operator

Plant networks had grown without a clear map, and remote access for vendors was a concern.

  • Passive discovery of OT assets without touching production
  • Purdue-model segmentation design and industrial firewall rules
  • Secure remote access for vendors with session recording

Result: A mapped, segmented network with a prioritised remediation plan the plant team could schedule.

Tier-1 Saudi bankRed team exercise

A threat-led red team exercise for a bank

The bank needed evidence that its people, processes and detection would hold up against a realistic attacker, in line with SAMA expectations.

  • Agreed rules of engagement and a threat scenario with the CISO
  • Ran a controlled exercise against production systems
  • Ran a purple team workshop so defenders could see every step

Result: Detection gaps were fixed, playbooks were updated and the board received a plain-language report.

GoAgile strengthened our cybersecurity posture with enterprise-grade protection aligned to the rigorous security and compliance standards our sector demands. Their team has been a dependable partner on a mission-critical engagement.

11Questions answered

OT and IoT Security FAQs

What is the difference between OT and IT security?

IT security prioritises confidentiality of data. OT security prioritises safety and availability of physical processes, with older systems, rare patching and little tolerance for disruption.

What is IEC 62443?

IEC 62443 is the international series of standards for security of industrial automation and control systems, covering zones and conduits, security levels and responsibilities of asset owners, integrators and suppliers.

What is the NCA OTCC?

The Operational Technology Cybersecurity Controls (OTCC-1:2022) extend the ECC for organisations that own, operate or host critical national infrastructure, and scale controls by facility criticality.

Can you assess our plant without disrupting production?

Yes. We use passive monitoring and offline analysis first, and avoid active scanning of sensitive devices unless agreed.

Do you secure IoT devices as well as industrial systems?

Yes. We test devices, firmware, gateways and cloud platforms, and design secure update and identity.

How long does an OT assessment take?

Typically eight to twelve weeks for a site, depending on size, with discovery first.

Do you integrate OT monitoring with a SOC?

Yes. OT alerts can feed our SOC and data lake, with analysts who understand industrial protocols.
